I bought these shoes (after searching, trying on, and sending back 3 other pairs of boots) for our European vacation in October. These shoes held up (new) while walking all day in 50degree weather with some days having rain. Timberlands (at least this style), I find run true to size. I normally wear a 7.5 and I was able to wear thin and thick socks all day without any problems. Easy to slip on and off. I was worried about chafing or rubbing since they are loose at the ankle, but they did not! Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!Read more >>

Why Would Anyone Run 26.2 Miles BAREFOOT?Most folks wonder why anyone would willingly run 26.2 miles, let alone doing it BAREFOOT! That's exactly what Ethiopia's Abebe Bikila did at the 1960 Olympics in Rome when he won the Gold Medal in the marathon. Americans viewing this and listening to it with the time were thoroughly amazed and left it at this. A half century later an increasing number of runners are leaving their high-tech running sneakers at home to perform barefoot -- well, not completely barefoot, generally they run with minimal foot coverings that protect the foot from sharp pointy things while allowing the foot to operate naturally.
This writer recently received a number of E-mails coming from a friend, runner Laura Bailiff, who, among other things, extolled her exuberance and expertise in recently beginning to perform "barefoot." Her messages were so interesting that I thought you'd like to hear what she's to say on the subject. First, though, here are a few reasons why some runners took to running sans athletic shoes:
